The MarLEN project has reached an important milestone with the completion of its First Review Meeting with the European Commission, covering the first 18 months of project implementation.
The meeting brought together the MarLEN consortium to present the progress achieved across the project’s Work Packages, reflect on the activities carried out during the first reporting period, and exchange with the European Commission on the work completed so far and the next stages of the project.
Throughout the meeting, each Work Package provided an overview of its main activities, achievements and upcoming priorities.
Work Package 2 – National Funding Programmes presented the progress made in mapping national funding structures relevant to waterborne research and innovation, including the ongoing work to expand the information collected across European countries and identify opportunities for greater coordination and cooperation between national programmes.
Work Package 3 – Call Procedures provided an update on the implementation of MarLEN’s transnational calls, including the experience gained from the first call, the projects selected for funding and the progress of the second call. The discussion also addressed opportunities to broaden participation and engagement across countries.
Work Package 4 – Project Monitoring presented the framework developed to monitor and evaluate the projects supported through MarLEN calls. The approach combines national-level monitoring with an assessment of areas particularly relevant to MarLEN, including dissemination, sustainability, transnational value and contribution to wider European research objectives.
Work Package 5 – Engagement, Synergies and Dissemination highlighted the communication and dissemination framework established during the first 18 months, alongside MarLEN’s work to develop synergies with relevant projects, networks and initiatives. The presentation also covered stakeholder engagement through mutual learning workshops, networking and brokerage events, and the development of policy recommendations based on stakeholder contributions.
Finally, Work Package 1 – Project Management and Coordination provided an overview of the structures and processes supporting MarLEN’s day-to-day management, consortium coordination, information exchange and cooperation across the different Work Packages.
The Review Meeting provided a valuable opportunity to take stock of the project’s first 18 months, discuss the progress achieved and receive feedback from the European Commission. Overall, the Project Officer noted that the project is progressing well, while also identifying areas where further work and clarification will support the next phase of implementation.
Building on the work completed during this first period, MarLEN will continue strengthening cooperation across the European waterborne research and innovation community, supporting coordination between national and European initiatives and contributing to the transition towards zero-emission waterborne transport.
