Call 2 Priority Areas

PA 1 (Early concepts, R&D)

Projects should focus on promising early concepts within the scope of ZEWT partnership and should include activities that predominantly fall within the category of industrial research.

PA 2 (D&I)

Projects should focus on research and development activities according to the topics of the ZEWT partnership as well and should be predominantly experimental development.

PA 3 (End user involvement)

Projects should focus on studies, demonstration and implementation of fuels and technologies on routes that stimulate early adoption of promising long-term solutions to reach zero-emissions in shipping.

Frequently asked questions

Any consortium of at least two independent legal entities from two different European countries participating in the MarLEN call. Each consortium must include at least one industry partner. Research institutions, SMEs, and public authorities are also encouraged to participate.

Projects must support the Zero Emission Waterborne Transport (ZEWT) goals. They should fall under one of three areas:

    • PA 1: Early concepts and industrial research
    • PA 2: Development & innovation with experimental testing
    • PA 3: Demonstration and early adoption by end users

Projects must be innovative, transnational, and aligned with national funding priorities.

For Call 1 (2025), the participating countries are:

  • Germany

  • Belgium

  • Türkiye

  • Ireland

  • Romania

  • Norway

More countries may join future calls.

Yes. Organizations from non-partner countries may join a consortium, but they must secure their own national funding and provide a letter confirming budget availability from their funding agency.
